We got the roaster up and running in a temporary location, in order to test it and make sure that everything arrived safely and in one piece. Thanks to a local coffee shop, Cafe Loco in Panajachel, we were able to get our hands on a couple pounds of green beans to roast up. Everything worked perfectly. We had a crash coarse in coffee roasting 101. :o) Felis, the director of the children's home, was taking video and pictures to document the roasting process so she will be able to carry on roasting - eventually teaching the kids...... both the roasting end, as well as the business end of roasting coffee.
I do plan on heading back down, hopefully with the rest of the family, soon. There is still a lot of training that could be done, as well as the need to instal the roaster in it's permanent home..... which is currently in the baby stages of being built.
Thanks to all of the supporters that have made this project possible..... I will update as we get further along with the project.
